SUMMARY

  • Amanda Halterman faced a heartbreaking breakup after being ghosted by her boyfriend, RJ.
  • Amanda is living with her sister Amy and addressing critics who have been talking about her breakup.
  • Amanda has had bariatric surgery twice, losing over 300 pounds, and is staying focused on her weight loss journey.

1000-lb Sisters star Amanda Halterman recently went through a devastating breakup that could’ve derailed her weight loss journey, but she has worked hard to stay on track. 1000-lb Sisters centers around the extraordinary weight loss journeys of Tammy Slaton and Amy Slaton, but their sister, Amanda, has gone on her own weight loss journey. Amanda didn’t appear on the show until season 4 because she was going through a divorce, but she has always been close to Tammy, Amy, and all her siblings.

Amanda grew up with her siblings in Shawneetown, Illinois. Unlike her sisters, Tammy and Amy, Amanda didn’t struggle with her weight growing up; she was considered the thin one in the family. After she got married and had four children, the 1000-lb Sisters season 5 star started putting on weight, and it got worse over time. After years of struggling, Amanda had her second bariatric surgery in March 2023, and she looks like a different person. She even found true love again after her painful divorce, but sadly, that relationship ended recently in the most heartbreaking way possible.

Amanda Was Ghosted By RJ

She Thought RJ Was The One

After Amanda lost weight, she met RJ in 2023 and fell head over heels in love. In February, Amanda posted a now-deleted photo of her and her man on TikTok, with the song “Little Life” by Cordelia playing in the background. In the image, which is taken at the beach, RJ’s face is partially visible as he kisses the back of Amanda’s head. Amanda’s caption reads, “@RJV I love life with you, Can’t wait to be back on the beach!!

In June, Amanda posted another now-deleted TikTok explaining her boyfriend, RJ, had ghosted her completely. According to Amanda’s TikTok, she hadn’t seen him since May 1. He had left town to meet his family and never returned. They were supposed to meet in Kentucky in late May but never arrived. Amanda tried contacting him, but he wouldn’t respond. She also tried contacting members of his family, and none of them responded to her either. He just disappeared without a trace.

During the clip, Amanda also reveals this isn’t the first time RJ has ghosted her, though this time, it lasted longer. It’s especially painful because Amanda moved from Kentucky to Florida to be with RJ, leaving her family behind to follow her heart. Before being deleted, the post had garnered over 33K likes, and the caption read, “#breakup #itisfinished accepting applications for my future husband.”

She’s Living With Amy

In the since-deleted TikTok, Amanda also explained she had moved back to Kentucky and was staying with her sister, Amy. In June, Amanda posted a TikTok video of herself holding one of Amy’s sons, Gage Halterman. The post has 1.8K likes, and the caption reads, “The babies are home. We sure miss them when they ain’t here.” Amy’s two sons, Gage and Glenn Halterman, go back and forth between Amy and her ex-husband, Michael Halterman.

Funnily enough, Amy’s ex is the brother of Amanda’s ex-husband, Jason Halterman. In other words, a pair of sisters married a pair of brothers. Amy’s husband, Michael, was a regular on the show until they announced their divorce in 2023, after 1000-lb Sisters season 5. The couple had been newlyweds when the series premiered. Desperately wanting to get healthy enough to have kids, Amy had bariatric surgery during season 1 and lost 125 pounds.

Amanda Addressed Her Critics

She’s Not Broken

Going through something as painful as a breakup must be even harder to do in the public eye. Just a few days ago, in June, Amanda posted a TikTok photo addressing the people who’ve been talking about her. “I’m not embarrassed about anything I went through. What may be “tea” for you, is a testimony for me,” Amanda’s post reads. “If you’re gonna talk about what broke me, invite me to the table, so I can tell you what God did with the pieces.” The post has 2.1K likes.

She Had Bariatric Surgery… Twice

1000-lb Sisters: Tammy, Chris, Amanda and Misty Working Out in Trash Bags (Clip)

Amanda reportedly had bariatric surgery for the first time in 2014, long before appearing on 1000-lb Sisters. After the surgery, Amanda lost over 300 pounds but was gaining weight again. During 1000-lb. Sisters season 5, Amanda and her other sister, Misty Wentworth, spoke to Tammy, Amy, and their brother, Chris Combs, about potentially undergoing weight loss surgery. “Me and Misty’s been going to see Dr. Smith,” Amanda tells her siblings. Dr. Smith was Tammy and Chris’ bariatric surgeon. During the discussion, the Slatons discuss their fears about the weight loss procedure, which can include complications and death.

Since Tammy, Amy, and Chris have all undergone the surgery, they understand that the procedure can be very dangerous.
