Since losing 440 pounds, 1000-lb Sisters star Tammy Slaton has been all smiles. The series, which premiered in 2020, centers around the incredible weight-loss journeys of 37-year-old Tammy and her 36-year-old sister, Amy Slaton. When Tammy made her television debut, she weighed over 600 pounds. Though the show was about her attempts to lose weight, she only seemed to gain weight as the show progressed. After season 3, Tammy got up to 720 pounds, and had extremely limited mobility. Despite her diminished quality of life, Tammy blew off her diet and partied all the time.

Everything changed for Tammy after a health scare landed her in the hospital. When the 1000-lb Sisters season 5 star woke from her week-long medically induced coma, she realized that she would die if she didn’t lose weight quickly. After treating her food addiction and getting bariatric surgery, Tammy’s pounds melted away. Going from over 700 pounds to 280 pounds changed Tammy’s body and life completely. Since losing weight, she has regained her mobility and is living her best life. Like in the Coldplay song “God Put A Smile Upon Your Face”, Tammy can’t stop smiling these days.

Tammy has always loved making TikTok duets with fans and other influencers. Since losing weight, she has had more drive to make content. One of the best things about Tammy’s weight loss is how much happier she has been since shedding the extra pounds. In January 2024, Tammy posted a TikTok birthday duet with a fan. In the clip, Tammy is wearing a red top, red fingernail polish, and a sweet smile. The post has 9.6K likes.

To really understand how different Tammy looks since losing weight, it’s helpful to look back at clips from early 1000-lb Sisters episodes. TikTok account thebudgetballet posted a season 1 clip of Tammy and Amy, at their heaviest, talking to a therapist about their dietary habits. They tell the therapist that they each drink eight to 12 cans of soda, which they lovingly refer to as “sodie,” per day.

The Slaton sisters explain that, when they were younger, their mother told them that if they “ate sugar,” and drank Diet Coke afterward, it would “cancel out the sugar.”

In January, Tammy posted a TikTok video of herself smiling as she danced in a head-to-toe, zip-up Jack Skellington-themed black-and-white jumpsuit, with a caption that read, “Ik i can’t dance but don’t kill my vibe. Just let me know I’m having fun lol.” In the clip, she’s dancing around, which is not something she could do before Tammy lost all the weight.

Before losing weight, Tammy could barely walk, let alone dance. At her size, leaving her house would require a ramp, a wheelchair, a specialty van, an oxygen tank, and more. This limited her mobility and she was basically a prisoner of her own body. Since losing weight, the 1000-lb Sisters star has enjoyed doing things that were restricted to her before, like going to the beach, flying on an airplane, and even dancing.

“God Gave You Style And Gave You Grace”

Tammy posted a TikTok unboxing video in December 2023, in which she wore a green hooded sweatshirt that reads GRINCH across the front and features the Grinch’s eyes on the hood. The sweatshirt is symbolic because Tammy has always had a reputation for being grumpy and difficult, sort of like the Grinch. Fans took to the comment section to tell Tammy that they don’t see her as Grinch-like at all. “You don’t remind me of a grinch,” wrote one fan. “Sorry you’re too nice.❤️🙏 I’m a big fan of yours.”

It Hasn’t Been All Smiles For Tammy

Though Tammy has a lot to smile about these days, it hasn’t all been sunshine and roses for the 1000-lb Sisters star. Tammy had always been unlucky in love, but she finally met a nice guy. After realizing she had to lose weight, Tammy checked herself into a weight loss rehabilitation facility, where she met fellow patient, Caleb Willingham. The two fell in love and were quickly married in a small ceremony attended by family and close friends during 1000-lb Sisters season 5.

Tammy was able to lose weight faster than Caleb and was allowed to go home. Though the couple spoke daily, separation was difficult for them. Like Tammy, Caleb was trying to overcome his debilitating food addiction, but, unlike Tammy, he wasn’t able to rescue himself. In 2023, just a few months after the wedding, 41-year-old Caleb died due to complications caused by his obesity. Though Tammy was devastated by Caleb’s death, she managed to stay on her path to health and weight loss, which is what Caleb would have wanted.
