1000-lb Sisters stars Amy Slaton and Michael Halterman went through a very ugly divorce in 2023, but there are hopeful signs that the couple is on better terms. When 1000-lb Sisters premiered in 2020, Amy and Michael were newlyweds and seemed like a happy couple. Michael was a fan favorite because he was always there for Amy and also for Amy’s family, especially for her sister and costar, Tammy Slaton. Amy and Michael wanted children, but Amy weighed over 400 pounds at the time, which would make a healthy pregnancy impossible.
During 1000-lb Sisters season 1, Amy had bariatric surgery, lost 125 pounds, and went on to have two healthy boys, Gage and Glenn Halterman. Amy was overwhelmed by motherhood and didn’t feel like she was getting enough help from Michael. Things came to a head when Amy and Michael’s marriage blew apart during 1000-lb Sisters season 5. Though his face is never shown, Michael is easily recognizable among the Slatons. Either Amy and Michael are on friendly terms again, or they’re getting back together.

Amy and Michael’s problems were revealed during 1000-lb Sisters season 5 when they got into a massive fight about Amy wanting her credit card and Michael refusing to hand it over. Later, an exhausted Amy cried as she explained to her sisters, Tammy and Amanda Halterman, that she wanted a divorce. “I used to be the glue that holds our family together, but now I’m just the used piece of gum,” Amy tearfully told her sisters.
She added, ” Someone done stuck me on the bottom of a dirty ass shoe .”
