HIGHLIGHTS

  • 90 Day Fiancé’s Debbie Aguero admitted to lying about her age on dating apps, causing fans to doubt her credibility.
  • Fellow reality TV contestants tried to explain the importance of honesty, but Debbie failed to see the issue.
  • Debbie’s new relationship with Ruben The Cuban was called a sham, further eroding her reputation.

90 Day Fiancé star Debbie Aguero has a reputation among fans for being outspoken (among other things), and now her honesty is once again being called into question in a very public way.

Debbie is one of the 90 Day Fiancé franchise’s most polarizing personalities, for a multitude of reasons.

For starters, Aguero holds the dubious distinction of claiming the number one spot on Collider’s ranking of 90 Day Fiancé age gaps, and the outlet explained:

“The largest age gap goes to these 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way alums. 67-year-old Debbie Aguero thought she found the love of her life when she met Oussama Berber online. The pair dated for five years before she packed her bags and restarted her life in Morocco.”

“Age gap relationships” routinely spark debate on reality TV and in real life, and in this case, Debbie was 43 years older than Oussama, who was 24 at the time.

Since Debbie’s ill-fated romance with Oussama on The Other Way ended, she’s remained a standout character in the franchise — often because she’s said or done something controversial.

On June 20th, chatter about Debbie’s admissions involving her antics on dating apps resurfaced.

In particular, an admission Aguero made during one 90 Day: The Single Life Tell-All segment came to issue, concerning younger suitors:

“She is currently 68 years old, but she wanted to appear younger, so she wrote on the apps that she was 58 years old. When she met a man named Russ and went on a date with him, it came out that she lied about her age.

“Debbie felt very guilty for lying about her age and she came clean to Russ.”

Debbie’s purported decision to shave a full decade off of her real age when using dating apps came to light long after fans of the 90 Day Fiancé franchise declared her “problematic,” and one fan specifically called out the power imbalance between Debbie and Oussama:

“The only thing I don’t like about Debbie is that she is in her late 60’s dating a guy from a [developing] country that’s only 24 expecting him to be honest with her … If Debbie was a man, the entire world would call her a creepy guy who deserved what he got[.]”

In short, Aguero’s interest in younger men was already considered a “huge red flag” among fans of the show — and her admission that she lied about her age to continue dating much younger guys did nothing to endear her to viewers.

On April 5th, the segment containing Debbie’s dating app confession appeared on YouTube, and it’s kind of hard to watch.

It began with Debbie explaining the scenario in which she lopped an entire decade off of her true age, and she immediately pivoted to her purported decision to come clean, saying:

“I wanted to get that off my chest right away. I don’t like carrying a lie around, even if it’s a ‘white lie.'”

Off the bat, Aguero focused on her “guilt,” and minimized the falsehood as simply a harmless “white lie.” Other contestants immediately chimed in, arguing that while “two years” might be considered a “white lie,” ten is just “a lie.”

For the duration of the segment, fellow 90 Day Fiancé contestants took turns trying to explain to Debbie why concealing her age was inappropriate:

In the middle of the short clip, the other Debbie – Debbie Johnson, Colt’s mother – made a sincere effort to get Aguero to understand, gently pointing out that many other people “don’t get to” have long lifespans:

“I think you should be proud of your age – you, seriously … for some reason you’re not. There’s a lot of people that don’t get to 68. They don’t.

“I’m 72, and I’m very proud of it. I don’t lie about my age, I never have … you have to accept your age. There’s nothing wrong with being 68 years old.”

Aguero’s response basically confirmed that she still didn’t see anything wrong with hiding the truth — she said she hid her age because she believed other users were turned off by it:

Well, the thing what happened, Debbie, is when I put down my real age on the dating site, no one would communicate with me.

It was like crickets, it was a vast void of nothingness.

That particular segment definitely seemed to undermine Debbie’s credibility.

One YouTube commenter began doubting that Aguero was under 70, commenting: “I think she is 76 years old, not 67. Stop lying about your age!!!!”

Ultimately, the back and forth left Debbie’s credibility in tatters — and now, her “ex-boyfriend” Ruben Sanchez is accusing her of dishonest behavior.

Debbie’s ‘Ruben The Cuban’ Fiasco Came Back To Haunt Her

On February 5th, ET reported that Aguero supposedly had a new love interest — Ruben Sanchez, known to fans as “Ruben The Cuban”:

“Debbie and her protective son, Julian, flew to Miami from Georgia to meet Ruben, the man Debbie has been chatting with online. Debbie and Ruben went on a date that ended with a goodnight kiss.”

In a twist that at this point could only be described as “predictable,” Ruben soon claimed that the relationship was a sham designed to keep Debbie on the show … one that supposedly happened in part due to Aguero’s problems with dating apps:

“On April 17, Debbie’s messages to Ruben from the dating site were exposed on X. The messages revealed that she only dated him to stay on the show since she had trouble forming connections with men online.”

InTouch Weekly obtained a police report filed by Sanchez in April, alleging Aguero had engineered a “malicious campaign of accusations and defamation against” him.

On May 7th, Ruben issued a statement of sorts on Instagram, asserting the relationship was a function of her “desperation to secure a spot on the show.”

Then, on June 17th, an Instagram-based fan account, @90_day_fomo, questioned Aguero’s fundraising efforts — in particular, the one for her Georgia-based Wild Ark Art Studio & Animal Sanctuary, with a sky-high goal of $500,000.

@90_day_fomo’s post underscored how Debbie’s past actions made fans trust her less, reading in part:

“Anybody who would advertise to find someone to pretend to be her boyfriend so she could get another [90 Day Fiancé] season isn’t trustworthy in my books.”

Ruben ran with the speculation, copying much of the post to his own Instagram account:

It’s worth pointing out that Ruben only said Debbie’s fundraiser “seems like a scam” without any definitive evidence of “scamming.”

But at the same time, 90 Day Fiancé’s fans are well-acquainted with Debbie’s latest fibs, and she’s given them two recent reasons to be skeptical of her truthfulness.
