    • The patriarch’s favoritism towards Robyn caused resentment and estrangement among his other wives. He drove Meri, Janelle and Christine Brown away.
    • Despite his flaws, fans should be compassionate because Kody’s grieving.

Sister Wives star Kody Brown’s going through a horrible experience – he lost his son Garrison Brown on March 5, 2024, and even though he’s grieving, a lot of people think that he’s a heartless man. Over 18 seasons of the popular series, Kody has changed. Once, he was relatively jolly. He usually had a smile on his face. He had some patience. However, as time passed, he began to harden – Kody became a jaded man. He didn’t appreciate his loved ones the way that he should, except for his queen, Robyn Brown.

Meri, Janelle and Christine Brown became sidekicks.

The three less-loved (or perhaps unloved) wives were “benched” by coach Kody. He was the patriarch in charge. The religious rules that the Brown family adhered to made him the boss and leader. Unfortunately, he abused his power, often playing the tyrant. At the same time, he seemed to think he was hard done by. Low on self-awareness, Kody found it difficult to get past his own ego. He blamed the people around him for situations that he engineered.

It’s no wonder Meri, Janelle and Christine ran for the hills. Men who treat women like that deserve to be left. Women who get treated that way should leave.

    But He Doesn’t

This is a time when fans should be rallying around Kody. He lost a child. However, he gets the worst shade instead. Fans stop just short of blaming him for the death of his son. On Instagram, Kody’s rarely active, and when he posted about Garrison’s death, he turned off the comments. So, Sister Wives viewers took to his older posts and began to tear him apart.

Garrison’s birthday is April 10. Janelle Brown honored him on that special day. She tried to save Garrison before he passed away.

Kody deserves better than this, even though he wasn’t a perfect father. He and Garrison were estranged when the young man died. Now, Kody has to live with that forever. There’s no way to say “I’m sorry.” However, many people who follow the show don’t have compassion for the patriarch. They seem to think that his decision to favor Robyn was the catalyst for the Brown family’s downfall. The truth is likely more complex, but there’s no question that Kody’s love for Robyn led to bitterness. The other wives and their kids had issues.

Kody didn’t approve of Garrison’s decision to join the National Guard, as seen in the clip above. His son changed his plans to please his dad. However, that squabble doesn’t mean that he didn’t love his child. It may actually have illustrated his concern, as Kody was afraid that Garrison would be wounded or killed if he was deployed. In light of how fragile he must be right now, the level of hate Kody‘s getting is hard to comprehend. On Kody’s older IG post (the last one he added before posting about Garrison’s death, a “fan” went low, writing:

You’re such a piece. You think everything’s about you. Those poor kids that you donated your sperm to, are suffering and it’s all because of you

Kody probably reads all of these remarks. Few celebrities are able to avoid this kind of temptation. It’s human nature to want to look and see what’s being said. Possibly, these comments put him in a downward spiral. It’s almost dangerous to verbally abuse someone like this when they’ve been through such a profound trauma. Kody could be very depressed – he might be on the edge. As of mid-May 2024, Kody isn’t responding to the mean comments.

While some Sister Wives viewers think Kody failed Garrison and his other kids (except the ones he raises with Robyn), that’s not the only reason why they think he’s heartless. There’s more (a lot more) – most of the shade is aimed at Kody’s dynamic with a certain dainty brunette, and the damage it has caused.

Kody Brown Didn’t Treat His “Other” Wives Well

Kody Brown Made Meri, Janelle & Christine Feel Bad

When Kody clashed with Janelle during season 18, there were fireworks. The situation was a powder keg as Janelle had just endured a long pandemic alone. She was forced to parent her kids with Kody by herself as Kody wanted her to follow very strict COVID avoidance rules. He didn’t feel for Janellle and the kids, who preferred to have some social contact. They did follow CDC guidelines. So, Janelle was faced with a choice that no mother should have to make. To spend time with Kody, she would have had to kick her children out of their home. Of course, she didn’t do this.

Christine was usurped by Robyn, and Kody didn’t seem to care how jealous Christine was. In fact, he seemed to rub his connection with Robyn in her face. Christine was the first to leave and when she shut down emotionally, she did so with admirable gusto. She left, started dating and then married another man, David Woolley. She seems very happy today. David treats her well and that has made all the difference.

Meri hung in there for years, waiting for Kody to forgive her for a catfishing incident that he basically forced her into by neglecting her. Yes, what she did was wrong, but it’s not hard to sympathize with the woman who had felt lonely for years. Meri was meek and mild, never confronting Kody. She wasn’t one to lose her temper. When she pulled away, it was because she gave up all hope.

That’s what Kody does to the women he doesn’t love. Then, he blames them for fleeing.

Kody has some growing up to do, but his situation wasn’t ideal. He fell in love with one wife and there were three others to think about. What was he to do? Kody may not have expected to love Robyn so much. It took the whole Brown family by surprise. When he’s with Robyn, Kody’s a better man. It’s not Robyn that makes him miserable, bitter and irritable – it’s his other problems. As he got more deeply involved with Robyn, he started detaching.

With the other wives, he was unreachable, as though he was on the moon.

Sister Wives shows the perils of plural marriage, and it’s sad that a Brown child died. However, people shouldn’t put everything on Kody. There are things that viewers don’t see. Only the people involved see the whole picture, and even then, they have their own points of view. Without Garrison, life’s bleaker for every Brown, including Kody.

Now, the Sister Wives patriarch who preached about the wonders of polygamy has turned against the institution that made him famous. For years, the family’s plural marriage was a sham. It’s only when Kody came clean about wanting monogamy with Robyn that he appeared to be a man with integrity. Yes, he’s been selfish, but who hasn’t? Kody gets judged by people who aren’t perfect parents – some may be awful human beings. It’s time for fans to back off so he can heal
